Avenue Plantation Drive Revives Greenery at Acharya Vihar
In the wake of Cyclone Fani, the Odisha Forest Department and SweetCanopy Foundation joined hands to bring back Bhubaneswar’s lost green cover. Over 2,000 tall saplings, each around five feet in height, were planted along the roadsides of Acharya Vihar as part of a large-scale avenue plantation drive.
The Forest Department ensured the careful selection of native species suited to Odisha’s climate, while SweetCanopy Foundation focused on supporting the workforce with meals, water, and essential supplies. Local volunteers, students, and residents took part enthusiastically, turning the initiative into a vibrant community effort.
Beyond environmental restoration, the project reflected unity and resilience. The newly planted saplings now stand as symbols of hope and determination to rebuild what was lost to the cyclone. Regular maintenance and community involvement will help ensure these trees grow into a lasting green legacy for Bhubaneswar.
